President visits the United Kingdom

President Andrzej Duda started a two-day visit to the United Kingdom on Monday as he laid a wreath at the Polish War Memorial in London that commemorates Polish airmen who helped the Allied cause during World War II.

The monument was erected at the initiative of the Polish Air Force Association near the Northolt RAF base in 1948.

Andrzej Duda also visited the adjacent Polish War Memorial Remembrance Garden which had been set up to commemorate the Polish participants in the Battle of Britain.

Later on Monday the president met several hundred representatives of the young Polish diaspora in the UK.

On Tuesday Duda is to meet Polish WWII veterans living in the UK and attend the ceremonies marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain at London's St. Paul's Cathedral, also to be attended by British PM David Cameron and Prince Edward.

On Tuesday, Andrzej Duda also met with Cameron and will be received by Prince Edward at Buckingham Palace.
