President Lech Kaczynski, the First Lady Mrs Maria Kaczynska and Polish delegation died on Saturday when a plane carrying senior Polish officials on their way to a memorial service in Russia marking 70th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre crashed 1,5 kilometre from the airport in Smolensk, shortly before 9 a.m.

On Thursday 18 March, the Head of the National Security Bureau met with Air War College (AWC) students.

Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau, Mr. Witold Waszczykowski and the Head of the President’s Chancellery, Mr. Wladyslaw Stasiak together with the Undersecretary of the State in the President’s Chancellery, Mr. Mariusz Handzlik met with the representatives of NATO “Wise Men” Group – Adam Rotfeld, Ambassador Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz and Bruno Racine.

On Monday 8 March the Head of the Armed Forces, President Lech Kaczyński and Head of the National Security Bureau participated in yearly briefing of senior officers of the Ministry of National Defence and Polish Armed Forces.

Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau Witold Waszczykowski, participated in the conference “The Future of NATO’s Nuclear Deterrent” on March 1-2, 2010 in the NATO Defense College in Rome.

National Security Bureau organises expert seminar concerning Polish participation in stabilisation mission in Afghanistan. Seminar took place on Wednesday 24th February 2010.

Minister Aleksander Szczygło has been asked to join the Honorary Charter supporting production of a film under working title „The Story of Swarm” introducing a story about fight carried out by soldiers representing anticommunist underground. This film has already been taken under Honorary Auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Lech Kaczyński.

On Monday, 1 February 2010 Warsaw celebrated 66th anniversary of Combat Action “Kutschera”. President of the Republic of Poland was represented by the Head of the National Security Bureau, Minister Aleksander Szczyglo.
