When we remember September 1, 1939, we do so from the need of our hearts, but also to reflect on our country's today and future, President Bronislaw Komorowski said Saturday in the north-Polish city Tczew.

President Bronislaw Komorowski inaugurated ceremonies marking the 32nd anniversary of the so called August Agreements that paved the way for the Solidarity trade union. The president granted distinctions to 40 democratic oppositionists of that era.

August 1 marks the 68th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, a heroic and tragic struggle to liberate Warsaw from Nazi occupation during World War II. This year, the commemoration begun on Monday, 30 July. On that day, President Bronisław Komorowski took part in the inaugural celebration of the uprising anniversary, that took place in Park Wolności by the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

Poland’s strong position in the crisis-afflicted European Union, constructive cooperation with the neighboring countries and pragmatic relations with Russia – those are the most important challenges for Polish foreign policy, according to President Bronisław Komorowski.
