Six thousand soldiers, including 3,000 from Poland, are taking part in one of the biggest NATO exercises in recent years code-named Steadfast Jazz 2013 underway in Poland and the Baltic States since November 2. The exercises are attended by all 28 NATO member states as well as by sub-units from partner countries - Finland, Sweden and Ukraine.

Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Poland's first prime minister after the fall of communism in 1989, died on Monday morning at the age of 86.

On 21 October 2013, during his travel to South Korea, President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski visited Panmunjom in the Demilitarised Zone cutting across the Korean Peninsula and separating North and South Korea, and the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission camp. The president was accompanied by the Head of BBN Stanisław Koziej.

On 21 October 2013, President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski visited Mongolia, where he met with President Tsakhia Elbegdorj. B. Komorowski spoke also with Prime Minister of Mongolia and Chairman of the Mongolian Parliament.

On 5 September 2013, Head of BBN Stanisław Koziej met with Yerik Utembayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Poland.

On 22 July 2013, President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski signed the bill that changes the command system and reduces the number of top-level commands in the Polish Armed Forces.

On 11 June 2013, Head of BBN Stanisław Koziej presented the White Book on National Security of the Republic of Poland to the ambassadors and representatives of embassies of NATO and the European Union members states and the neighbouring countries. The meeting - a part of the Strategic Security Forum - was a continuation of the debate on the conclusions and recommendations of the National Security Strategic Review (NSSR), which was completed in December 2012.

On 6 June 2013, President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski met with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Head of BBN Stanisław Koziej also participated in the meeting.

On 26-27 May 2013, took place the meeting of representatives of the secretariats of national security councils of the Visegrád Group (V4) member countries. The main purpose of the meeting was preparing a joint proposal of the new security strategy for the European Union.
