We, the Presidents of the EU member states: the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic, and the Republic of Slovenia strongly believe that Ukraine deserves receiving an immediate EU accession perspective.

The EU and Nato should remain united in their resolve to impose 'serious sanctions' on Russia, Andrzej Duda, the Polish president, has said. The president convened a meeting with cabinet ministers on Tuesday to discuss Russia's decision on Monday to recognise two breakaway regions in the east of Ukraine.

President Andrzej Duda met on Friday in Warsaw with visiting US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for talks on enhancing bilateral cooperation in security amid Russia's actions jeopardising peace in Central and Eastern Europe.

International tensions caused by Russia’s build–up of troops on the Ukrainian border and the resulting fears of a possible invasion are a test for the whole Western community, President Andrzej Duda, has said.

In recent months, President Andrzej Duda has been focusing his talks and international meetings on security in the region, also in the context of the situation in Ukraine.

President Andrzej Duda met with cabinet ministers on Tuesday to discuss potential developments if Russia decided to escalate its conflict with Ukraine. The Polish head of state has the power to summon the ministers under the so–called Cabinet Council format do discuss the most serious internal or external matters.
