Leaders on regional security

Following an invitation from the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, the presidents of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, Estonia, Alar Karis, and Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, as well as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, arrived in Warsaw.

The primary agenda items for the meeting included security in the Baltic Sea region, Russian aggression in Ukraine, and the status of peace negotiations led by President Donald Trump. President Karol Nawrocki took part twice in a teleconference organised by the US head of state, with the participation of European leaders and the NATO Secretary General.

These discussions with the leaders from the region are a preparatory step for Polish President’s upcoming visit to Washington, DC, next week.

The leaders also took part in a teleconference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

„The President's guests are very grateful to him for planning to present not only Poland's perspective in Washington, but also that of the entire region,” said Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau, following the meeting.

“In many respects, the leaders expressed a similar perspective on the threats from the East. On the other hand, of course, all these countries believe that if there is to be a real ceasefire and lasting peace, then it is essential that it is as fair as possible and does not come across as a victory for Russia,” emphasised the Head of the presidential International Policy  Bureau.

At the same time, he noted that Russia bears the responsibility for the aggression against Ukraine and “must feel the strength of the West, including that of the United States.”
