Easter meeting at the Eurocorps Command

President Andrzej Duda and his wife, Agata Kornhauser–Duda, met in Strasbourg on Wednesday with soldiers and civilian personnel serving at the Eurocorps Command.

Andrzej Duda underlined that, today, Russia had been posing the biggest threat in Europe and declared that, since the very beginning, all NATO and EU members had been offering all kinds of support to Ukraine fighting against Russian aggression.

Speaking about Eurocorps, President said that the point was not to build competition between NATO and the EU but to create a synergy effect.

And this is what is going on here today. This role of Eurocorps will probably become even more important in a situation when the US demands that Europe should be more active with regard to its own security and be able to respond independently to the greatest possible extent also to the challenges that appear (...) in the European theatre,” Andrzej Duda added.

According to President, Eurocorps plays a special role which is extremely significant also for Poland's security policy. – We are witnessing today the rebirth of Russian imperialism and an extraordinary decline not only in the sense of security, especially in Central Europe, but also a real decline in security in our part of Europe, in particular along the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance and along the eastern border of the European Union – Andrzej Duda said.

Eurocorps is a multi–national rapid response force established by France and Germany in 1992. Later it was joined by Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg. Poland joined the force in January 2022. Its main tasks include crisis, humanitarian and rescue missions as well as peace–keeping operations for international organisations, mainly NATO and the EU.
