President: Poland among countries interested in receiving US troops

As there were at least a few countries interested in receiving US soldiers, including Poland, it was important for Poland to discuss this first, said President Andrzej Duda, who met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

When asked about the words of President Donald Trump that some American soldiers would be moved from Germany to other European countries, including Poland, Duda told Polish Radio One that the US president's position was unequivocal and that arrangements were made and implemented on the basis of two agreements concluded last year that provided, firstly, for an increase, by a thousand, of the number of US soldiers in Poland and, secondly, the details of where these soldiers would be deployed and where they are deployed at the moment. "Our talks concerned additional US forces not covered by these agreements," said Duda.

Asked whether the declaration of Donald Trump can be read that, at some point in the future, more than a thousand soldiers will come to Poland, since he said that some soldiers from Germany will come to Poland, Duda answered, "Yes, that's how you can read it."

"The most important thing for us is for American soldiers not to leave Europe at all, but where they are exactly located, these are the decisions of individual countries and, above all, the United States. As there are at least a few countries that are interested in receiving American soldiers, and because we are among them, I am glad that today I was the first to discuss this, because, in politics, it is sometimes 'first come, first served,'" he said.
