Present at the signing were PM Mateusz Morawiecki and Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.

The strategy, which replaces a previous act from 2014, defines measures to be undertaken in face of political, military, economic, energy, social and climate security threats. It is Poland's basic security and defence policy act.

At the signing, Duda said that the new strategy took several years to prepare owing to the changes in Poland's security environment during the past five years. He especially mentioned the presence of NATO forces in Poland and cooperation within the Three Seas initiative as new security mainstays which were non-existent at the introduction of the previous security strategy.

Duda said that Poland's current security policy was aimed towards resolving future challenges, which Poland was striving to meet by, among others, expanding its energy sector, diverisifying energy supply, raising defence spending and extending environmental protection.

Duda also mentioned the strategy's provisions for ecological and health security, and noted that the latter were especially crucial in face of the coronavirus epidemic.

Morawiecki said the strategy will define the shape of future security laws and provisions, and stressed that security was fundamental for national development.
