Head of BBN: We are expecting a decision to increase the presence of US troops in Poland

Poland is certain that the resignation of US Secretary of Defence James Mattis will not change the plans to increase the presence of US troops in Poland, Paweł Soloch, the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), said on Friday.

On Thursday, the head of the Pentagon, James Mattis, announced that he will retire at the end of February 2019. When asked about the significance of Mattis's decision for Poland, Soloch replied that "it's important in the sense that we are expecting a decision to increase the presence of US troops in Poland." "In spring, Congress is to read the recommendations prepared (on this subject) by the Pentagon", he added.

Soloch gave his assurance that information held by BBN indicates that, after the leadership change at the Pentagon, the continuity of activities related to the implementation of the main goals will be maintained.

"Of course, a new Pentagon chief is always associated with some changes in policy, but we're confident that the basic direction will be maintained - it's about increasing the presence of US troops in Poland and that, without a doubt, will be maintained", said Soloch.
