73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly

President Andrzej Duda participated the inaugural session of the 73rd UN General Assembly. At the begining the heads of states observed a minute of silence to honor Kofi Annan.

Accompanying President Andrzej Duda were Krzysztof Szczerski, the Chief of the Cabinet of the President, Paweł Soloch, the Head of the National Security Bureau, Jacek Czaputowicz, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Joanna Wronecka, Permanent Representative of Poland to the UN.

Tomorrow President Duda will make a speech at the general debate.

In January of this year Poland assumed the role of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a period of two years. On Wednesday President Duda took part in the sitting of the Council.

 

 

 

  • President Duda met with King of Jordan

The war in Syria and the problem of refugees and their return to their homeland were the topics of talks between Polish President Andrzej Duda and King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. The meeting of the two leaders took place on Tuesday in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

 

"The leaders discussed scenarios for developments in the region and expressed their hope for a sustainable stabilisation strategy. They also raised the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict", the head of the Polish president's office, Krzysztof Szczerski told. 

 

President Duda invited the King of Jordan to pay an official visit to Poland next year. 

 

  • President met with President of Albania Ilir Meta 

During his meeting with Albanian President Ilir Meta, the two presidents discussed the situation in the Western Balkans. President Duda also expressed his support for Albania's NATO and EU bid through coming to an understanding with Greece. Other topics under discussion were relations between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

President Duda congratulated Albania on its economic development, making the country an attractive proposition for Polish investors and tourists. The Albanian president extended an invitation for President Duda to visit his country during the coming year.

 

  • President Duda met with President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas

On the sidelines of Tuesday's 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, President Duda discussed the current state of Palestinian-Israeli relations and the future peace process with President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. 

 

"President Abbas presented his concerns and critical evaluation of the situation in the Middle East, and asked Poland for continued support for a two-state solution as a guarantee of stability," said presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski.

 

He also pointed out that both presidents expressed pleasure over current relations between Poles and Palestinians, including in the areas of student exchange and scientific collaboration. 

 

 

  • President  took part in the high level meeting on the adoption of the “Action for Peacekeeping”  chaired by the UN Secretary General

"Poles have the desire to live in peace, in a stable and strong state which ensures the safety, freedom and comfort of life of its citizens. Therefore, Poland is happy to join the declaration with the hope that its adoption will bring desirable effects," the Polish leader stated.
