66th anniversary of eliminating „the butcher of Warsaw”

On Monday, 1 February 2010 Warsaw celebrated 66th anniversary of Combat Action “Kutschera”. President of the Republic of Poland was represented by the Head of the National Security Bureau, Minister Aleksander Szczyglo.

 

Remembrance ceremony of the execution of a sentence on the SS and Police commander of Warsaw district, General Franz Kutschera started at the commemorative stone in Aleje Ujazdowskie 23 in Warsaw, at the place where the heroic action carried out by the soldiers of the scout battalion “Umbrella” took place. Minister Aleksander Szczyglo on behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Lech Kaczyński read the letter and laid a wreath.
 
Next, the Head of the NSB lighted a candle under the plaque commemorating the place where the Warsaw citizens where executed by the firing squad on 2nd February 1944, which was German revenge for Kutshera’s elimination.
 
Celebration drew numerous veterans, representatives of state and self-government authorities, reconstruct groups, scouts, pupils and students; it was organised by the Group of Soldiers of battalion „Umbrella” belonging to the World’s Association of the Home Army Soldiers and lead by Ms. Maria Stypulkowska pseudonym “Kama” – who participated in the events 66 years ago.
