Polish and US presidents on security and next year's NATO summit
Polish and US Presidents Andrzej Duda and Barack Obama spoke about security, next year's NATO summit in Warsaw, steps that should be taken to make it a success, Ukraine, eastern policy and sanctions imposed on Russia, Minister Krzysztof Szczerski said Tuesday.
On Monday, President Duda met with the US head of state three times. "There were two short conversations. The first one was held after President Obama's speech and before President Duda's address. This was a short exchange of views. And later, an hour and a half long conversation during a luncheon hosted by the UN secretary general," the presidential minister went on.
"The talks with President Obama focused on security, next year's NATO summit in Warsaw, steps that should be taken to make it a success, Ukraine, eastern policy and sanctions imposed on Russia," Szczerski said, adding that the two heads of state agreed that only diplomacy based on international law created a chance to overcome the crisis.
"These were serious and important talks which moved forward the policy carried out by President Duda and designed to strengthen Poland's security," Krzysztof Szczerski went on.
"The two politicians sat next to each other. We are very glad that President Duda was sitting at the first table, personally hosted by Ban Ki-moon," Krzysztof Szczerski added.
