General Commander of the Armed Forces appointed by the President

President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski appointed gen. pil. Lech Majewski for the position of General Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. He will fill the position with effect from 1 January 2014.

Lt. Gen. Lech MAJEWSKI

Lt. Gen. Lech MAJEWSKI was born on 30th June 1952 in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski.
In 1976 he graduated from the Officer's Aviation School in Dęblin (currently Polish Air Force Academy) in the rank of second-lieutenant-pilot. He began his military service in the 21st Tactical Air Reconnaissance Regiment in Powidz
- where he served till 1982 - at various posts, from pilot to squadron navigator.

In January 1983 he assumed the post of air regiment navigator in the 32nd Tactical Air Regiment in Sochaczew. During the years 1983
-1986 he studied at the Military Aviation Academy in Monino (Russia).

After graduating from the Academy in July 1986 he assumed the post of the squadron commander in the 32nd Tactical Air Reconnaissance Regiment.

On December 27th 1990 he was appointed the post of the commander of the 1st Air Fighter Regiment "Warsaw" in Minsk Mazowiecki. In October 1993 he attended operational-strategic studies at the National Defense Academy in Warsaw. From September 1st 1994 he served as the deputy chief of the Air Forces Branch of the 1st Air Defense Corps in Warsaw and later - from 21st November 1995 –as the chief
of aviation of the 3rd Air Defense Corps in Wroclaw.

In November 1999 he was appointed the commander of the 3rd Air Defense Corps.

On August 15th 2000 - he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General - and three years later, on August 15th 2003 - promoted to the rank of Major General.
In November 2003 he assumed the post of the Commander of the Air Operations Center - Deputy Commander of the Polish Air and Air Defence Forces.

In February 2004 he attended operational-strategic studies at the National Defense University in Washington (USA). On August 15th 2005 he was promoted to the rank
of Lieutenant General. From August 2007 he assumed the post of Air Forces Assistant to the Polish Armed Forces Chief of Staff.

Lt. Gen. Lech Majewski is the Chairman of Polish Air Force Academy Council
– Rector-Commandant’s Adviser.

General Majewski is a member of Science Council of Air Force Institute
of Technology

He is a visiting professor of the Defence National Academy as well.

His hobbies are history and sport. He enjoys playing tennis and skiing. His wife's name is Elżbieta - they have two daughters.

  • 2003-2007 –Air Operations Center Commander - the Polish Air and Air Defence Forces Deputy Commander;
  • 2003-2004 –Air Operations Center Commander - the Polish Air and Air Defence Forces Deputy Commander;
  • 2005-2007 – Air Forces Assistant to the Polish Armed Forces Chief of Staff;
  • Since 21st May 2010 –  the Air Force Commander.

FLIGHT HOURS

Approximately 2000 flight hours in various types of aircrafts, including TS-8 “Bies”, Lim-2, SB Lim-2A, TS-11 Iskra, MiG-21 (version MF, PFM, R, UM and US), MiG-29,
F-16, as well as Mirage 2000, Mirage 2000-5F, F-18, T-38, M-346 and M-28.
