Expert meeting on an amendment of the European Security Strategy

Monday, 4 June 2012. The National Security Bureau organized another meeting under the series of expert meetings dedicated to an amendment of the European Security Strategy. The meeting was headed by the Deputy Head of the NSB Zdzisław Lachowski.

The seminar was dedicated to answering the question whether the member states share common interests that would incline them to amend the European Security Strategy. The participants also discussed specific proposals related to the possible launch of a strategic review on the European Union’s forum.

Introductions to the discussion were given by the director of Amicus Europae Foundation, Ireneusz Bil, PhD and the managing director of the International Relations Center, Bartłomiej Nowak.

During the meeting, the participants commented on the food for thought propositions as prepared for the seminar by the NSB.

In 2011 the NSB initiated a process of strategic reflection on a possible amendment of the ESS. In October 2011, the Presidential Palace held an international conference, under the NSB’s auspices, dedicated to the issue. Moreover, in February 2012, during the security conference in Munich, President Bronisław Komorowski called upon the members states of the EU to start reflecting on the ESS.
