Former minister-coordinator for economic affairs of Indonesia visits the NSB
Thursday, 17 May 2012. Deputy Head of the NSB Zdzisław Lachowski met with Professor Dorodajtun Kuntjoro-Jakti, former minister-coordinator for economic affairs of Indonesia. It was the first visit paid by the representative of Indonesia to the Bureau.
Prof. Kuntjoro-Jakti presented geopolitical conditions in Indonesia and the position the country holds in the world. The parties discussed strategic consequences of the US shifting their focus to the Asia-Pacific and challenges connected with the growth of China’s global position. Discussion included also cultural dimension of security. Due to the fact that Indonesia is a country of numerous ethnic and religious groups, their experiences in keeping up with the challenges are valuable.
South-East Asia is becoming more and more important point on the world’s strategic map, and importance of Indonesia as a country located on the main transport route is growing. It is worth remembering that this is the country with the largest Muslim community in the world. The meeting with Professor Kuntjoro-Jaktim was a good occasion to understand situation in South-East Asia better.
