National Security Council meets to discuss NATO summit

"We have also decided that Poland will have its own strategy of ending the mission and pulling out of Afghanistan, just in case some other parties propose to extend (NATO's) military presence in Afghanistan beyond the agreed date," said the president who visited Kabul only last week and will head the Polish delegation to the NATO summit in Chicago.

Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak's visit to Uzbekistan on Friday will help prepare such a strategy. The visit may result in bilateral agreements that will supplement the agreements between NATO and countries in the region, the president explained.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski will submit to the RBN a government plan of assistance to Afghanistan after the year 2014, Bronisław Komorowski also said. The plan will outline civilian assistance in reforming the country.

The Polish military contingent in Afghanistan numbers 2,500 soldiers plus 200 more in reserve in Poland and has been reduced by 100 plus 100 since last autumn.

RBN is a constitutional body advising the president on the state's internal and external security. It is composed of top government and parliament officials as well as of heads of leading political parties.
