Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller visited the NSB

Wednesday, 29 February 2012. The Head of the NSB met with the Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller, who was accompanied by the US Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Lee Feinstein.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the current conditions and the future of conventional arms control in Europe.

Maintaining stability and regional security order depends mostly on the functioning arms control and disarmament regimes as well as the trust and security measures. Impasse concerning the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, CFE, which is a consequence of Russia suspending execution of the provisions in 2007 and their refusal to accept the evaluation visits under Vienna Document 2011 in January 2012 (Swedish and Spanish) resulted in trust crisis and reminded of the role that arms control plays in the security system. Both the United States and Poland are interested in finding a constructive solution.

The ministers discussed also the Tactical Nuclear Weapons in Europe in the context of NATO summit in Chicago.
