Head of NSB accompanied Speaker of the Sejm during his visit to Afghanistan

On Monday 20 June Speaker of the Sejm acting President, Bronisław Komorowski, accompanied by Minister of National Defence, Bogdan Klich, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of National Security Bureau Stanisław Koziej visited Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan and met with the President of Aghanistan Hamid Karzaj.

"Thanks to your efforts and actions we became one of the most important NATO allies”"– said Bronisław Komorowski to the soldiers serving in 7th shift of the PMC.

The visit related mainly to the dramatic events that took place in Polish contingent. "Acting Supreme Commander of the Polish Armed Forces I realise that I should be here during those difficult moments” – said.

During the meeting with the commander of the 7th shift General-Brigadier Andrzej Przekwas the delegation discussed current situation in Afghanistan and operations carried out by Polish troops. Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikowrski emphasised how important is the presence of our forces in Afghanistan on the international arena. “The success of the operation in this country is to withdraw the forces with honour. I believe we will be able to do that” – he said.

During press conference Minister of National Defence Bogdan Klich said that until 2013 when Ghazni becomes the World Capital of Islamic Culture, ISAF should end the mission in Afghanistan. He believes that until that time the latest, Polish troops would be able to successively pass down individual provinces to the people of Afghanistan.

After the visit, the Speaker went to Kabul where he met with the President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzaj and the Chief of ISAF Regional Command East Major-General John F. Campbell.
