Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau
Dariusz Gwizdała was born in1971 in Kraków. From 1998 to 2005 he served in the Prime Minister`s Office and in the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw. In the years 2005-2006 he acted as advisor to the Minister of Interior and Administration. In 2006, appointed as Director of Cabinet to the Head of the National Security Bureau, whereas in 2007, as Director of the Political Cabinet to the Minister of Interior and Administration. In 2007 he took over again as Director of Cabinet to the Head of the National Security Bureau and remained in office until 2009. In the same year he started serving as Deputy Director of Cabinet to the Chief of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. From 2011 to 2016, Dariusz Gwizdała worked in the Supreme Audit Office. In August 2016, appointed as Director of Cabinet to the Head of the the National Security Bureau.
On November 1, 2016 appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, as Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau.
Dariusz Gwizdała`s background is law. He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University and completed post-graduate studies at the Kozminski University in Warsaw, as well as auditors` training at the Supreme Audit Office.
His areas of interest cover: administrative and financial law, military security, literature, history and economic relations. He is an auditor of the Supreme Audit Office, currently on unpaid leave. Privately, a husband and a father.

The Secretariat of the Head of National Security Bureau is responsible for organisation as well as coordination of activities, meetings and visits paid by the Head and his deputies, organisational services provided during the meetings of the National Security Council and conferences, other meetings and seminars, preparing a draft of BBN's budget and supervising its performance. The Secretariat is also responsible for performing BBN's informational and promotional policy.

The responsibilities of the Department of Strategic Analyses include first and foremost monitoring the strategic environment of the national and international security in relation to the opportunities, challenges, risks and threats to the security of the Republic of Poland, preparing for the President of the Republic of Poland and the Head of the Bureau reports that include medium and long-term analyses, syntheses and prognoses concerning the international and national security as well as issuing opinions concerning the drafts of strategic documents issued or approved by the President of the Republic of Poland.

Scope of tasks performed by the Armed Forces Supervision Department includes in particular ensuring substantial and organisational environment for supervision performed by the President of the Republic of Poland over the Armed Forces in relation to personnel, technical and organisational as well as operational issues, monitoring of the current functions of the Armed Forces and preparing suitable reports in this regard for the President of the Republic of Poland and the Head of BBN. Moreover, the AFS Department is also responsible for cooperation with the official authorities and social organisations acting towards the state’s defences.

Responsibilities of the Department of Law and Non-Military Security include in particular providing complex legal support for BBN, preparing drafts of prescriptive acts and other legal acts in performance of the President’ legislative initiatives (within BBN’s competence), issuing legal opinions concerning drafts and other documents relating to the national security as well as representing the Bureau in the legislative works on the drafts that concern issues falling into scope of responsibilities of BBN during the meetings of the Parliamentary Committees and Sub-Committees as well as other institutions. This department is also responsible for collecting information relating to internal and external non-military threats to the state’s security, this includes in particular public, social and economic security, and then preparing appropriate evaluations in that respect. Moreover, Department of Law and Non-Military Security performs monitoring and analyses and evaluates current activities of the state services, official authorities, business entities and social organisations within the area of non-military areas of national security during the peace and their operation plans during the crisis and war, as well as monitoring and evaluating system of national security management.
