Head of BBN: No big US base in Poland in coming year

The expected US decisions related to the coming year will not involve the construction of a big military base in Poland, but will rather concern increased US military presence, head of Poland's National Security Bureau (BBN) Paweł Soloch said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Onet.pl website, minister P. Soloch said that "in the near future, if there are decisions related to, let's say, the coming year, they will not be decisions concerning the construction of a big base."

"At this stage we are talking about a gradual increase of a US presence," the BBN head added.

Warsaw has been trying to convince Washington to build a military base in Poland, to which Polish President Andrzej Duda gave the working title "Fort Trump."

Soloch said that officials from the Polish Defence Ministry and the Pentagon will continue talks this week. "We will certainly be dealing with an increased US presence in Poland. It's going to be gradual," he said.

He observed that "there might be a decision, as it is also discussed, to build military installations in Poland."
