President names new Chief of Staff

President Andrzej Duda has named General Rajmund Andrzejczak the Polish Army's new Chief of General Staff. Andrzejczak will take over his post on July 3, he replaces General Leszek Surawski, who will retire from the army.

Andrzejczak, 51, received his officer's training in Poznań, from 1993 to 1996 he was commander of a tank company in north Poland, after which he served in reconnaissance units. From 1998 to 1999 he was chief of staff and later deputy commander of the LITPOLBAT Polish-Lithuanian Peace Force Battalion.

Andrzejczak's appointment will take place on Monday in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.
