"Thanks to your service, people in Poland can live in safety and work in peace," the president said in Nowy Glinnik, Tomaszow Mazowiecki county, in central Poland, where he met with soldiers from the 7th Air Squadron based there. "I want very much to thank you for your service."

"You stand on guard of Poland’s security – and more broadly – you guard world safety and peace in your role as an army that is part of the Atlantic Alliance, the world’s largest defence alliance," the president said.

President Duda also said he was happy to see that the Polish military was buying new weapons from domestic producers. In this way, government funds largely remain in the country and contribute to the further development of local industry, he added.

Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz, who also took part in the ceremony, said that the past year has been a time of "good news and good changes" for the Polish military. (PAP)
