President Duda discusses Poland's bid for UN Security Council

Polish President Andrzej Duda has met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York to discuss Poland’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2018-2019, said presidential aide Minister Krzysztof Szczerski.
"President Duda and the UN secretary general discussed key challenges faced by the UN, especially in the sphere of world peace. The president thanked Ban Ki-moon for his 10 years in office as UN secretary general and assured him that Poland wants to be an active member of the UN," said Minister Szczerski.
The two also discussed Poland's bid to win a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council and challenges faced by Poland.
Before leaving for New York, the president said in Warsaw on Friday that "this is an extremely important and prestigious matter; Poland has entered the final stage on the road to win a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council."
The president stressed at the time that Poland wants to prove that it is not only a security consumer but also a country that contributes to increased security, to growing stability in the world, through active diplomacy.
