Head of BBN holds talks in NATO structures

Head of the National Security Bureau Paweł Soloch's talks in NATO structures have covered the strengthening of defense and deterrence capacity, decisions to be taken during next year's NATO summit in Warsaw and alliance's relations with Russia.

"The purpose of the visit was to once again draw allies' and NATO leadership's attention to the fact that we want a strengthening of deterrence and defence within the alliance, especially in the eastern flank but we also see the South," Soloch told on Wednesday.

"The (Polish) president has repeatedly expressed a wish that the next summit would not focus on the summing up and on the implementation of decisions from Wales, but would bring concrete decisions concerning defence and deterrence," Soloch underlined. He added that following a recent meeting of NATO foreign ministers, "one may have an impression that all allies are aware of this fact."

Soloch pointed out that military recommendations by Gen. Philip Breedlove will have influence on drafting political decisions on forms of response in case of Russian threat to countries of the region.

"There is no doubt that his influence on the final political decisions is very big. Recommendations now being prepared will be important for political decisions. Thus the upcoming February meeting of defence ministers, expected to bring an initial agreement, will be of great importance," said Soloch.

During a two-day visit completed on Tuesday Soloch held meetings at NATO headquarters in Brussels, where he spoke with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel, at SHAPE headquarters in Mons, Belgium where he met with Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Philip Breedlove and SHAPE Chief of Staff Gen. Werner Freers. He also held talks with Gen. Marshall Webb, the Commander of NATO Special Operations Headquarters.
