President attends security sitting on Tunis assault

Wednesday's terrorist assault in Tunis, the protection of diplomatic missions and anti-terrorist systems were in the focus of a Thursday sitting at the HQ of the National Security Bureau (BBN).

Attending were President Bronislaw Komorowski, Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna, head of BBN Stanislaw Koziej and high military officials.

Komorowski said after the sitting that Schetyna presented a report on the Tunis incident, in which a number of Polish tourists were killed and several more injured. He added that the sitting also heard a report on security measures in Polish diplomatic missions in high-tension areas.

Komorowski reminded that some Polish foreign missions have suspended their activity - among others in Iraq and Syria - but others were continuing with their work under reinforced security.

According to Komorowski the security reinforcements introduced in foreign missions were "adequate to the existing threats in North Africa and the Middle East.

The sitting also discussed anti-terrorist systems in Poland in the context of a National Anti-terrorism Programme passed last December. Komorowski stressed that the programme's effectiveness was a key issue and that some of its elements will be practiced during a forthcoming "Country 2015" exercise to test Poland's resistance to threats.
