BBN and NSDC of Ukraine sign cooperation accord

The strengthening of Ukraine serves Poland as well as Europe, head of the Polish National Security Bureau (BBN) Stanislaw Koziej said after meeting Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in Warsaw on Thursday.

Koziej, speaking after a round of talks with Turchynov, said the two agreed that a strong Ukrainian army raised the chances of halting the escalation of the conflict.

"That is why strengthening the Ukrainian army and supplementing it with arms is in the interest of Europe, Poland and Ukraine," Koziej said after the talks, which also covered military cooperation.

The BBN head and his Ukrainian counterpart signed a cooperation agreement consolidating partnership in face of the security crisis in the region. The document provides for consultations and exchange of experience in drafting strategic documents and making reviews of the security and defence policy. Koziej also declared readiness to support Ukraine in its EU and NATO integration efforts.

Oleksandr Turchynov said that "Ukraine has no alternative to European and Euro-Atlantic integration". "We are very grateful for Poland's support of this direction", added the Ukrainian guest.

According to Koziej Poland's support for Ukraine regarding security is possible inside NATO and the EU "to jointly and to the maximum support Ukraine in this difficult situation," through direct help in the transformation of the Ukrainian army and its adjustment to western standards.
