Head of BBN in London on Ukraine, EU security policy

Head of National Security Bureau (BBN) Stanislaw Koziej in London on Thursday discussed developments in Ukraine, implementation of NATO decisions from Newport and the EU's security and defence policy.

Koziej's agenda included meetings with the British government's National Security Advisor Kim Darroch, talks at the British Parliament and the Foreign Office where he met with Minister for European Affairs David Lidington.

Koziej told PAP the talks focused on the security situation in Europe in view of the Russia-Ukraine war. "We also devoted much time to Europe's reactions to Russia's aggression," he said.

The Polish official said the talks also concerned possible political and economic ways of stopping Russia. "We spoke of sanctions and the need to keep them in force until full implementation of the provisions of the Minsk agreement, ways of backing Ukraine both in political ... and economic dimensions, as well as about strengthening (Ukraine's) defensive capability - through help with transforming the armed forces, training or possible arms deliveries," said Koziej.

The talks also covered the NATO summit planned in Warsaw next year and the implementation of decisions from Newport, "especially those concerning strengthening the alliance's eastern flank."

Another topic covered during the London talks was the EU common security and defence policy in view of the upcoming June EU summit.
