President Komorowski: Poles not directly threatened despite "dangerous times"

"Dangerous times" are coming due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but Poles should not feel directly threatened, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski told on Tuesday.

"The region is under threat, global stability is under threat and the war is in direct proximity to Poland - already on the other side of Ukraine, so without hysterical moves and nervous reactions we should help strengthen Ukraine, we should help strengthen NATO cohesion as it is our most important security guarantee," President Komorowski said.

Komorowski also underscored the need to bolster and modernise Poland's defence system as part of NATO. He also supported increased EU integration as an economic safeguard.

Referring to the talks on ways to end the conflict in Ukraine, to be conducted by representatives of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine in Minsk on Wednesday, Komorowski said that Poland should be ready to enter such talks when "there are new circumstances, new opportunities and Ukraine has new needs," but without demanding a seat at the negotiation table.
