President approves Polish access to Resolute Support

The president Friday signed a decision about the employment of Polish forces in NATO's Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.

Resolute Support will launch on January 1, 2015 and will replace the current ISAF mission in Afghanistan which expires at the end of this month.

The Polish Resolute Support force will number a maximum 150 troops and civilian staff, their tour of duty in Afghanistan is foreseen from January 1 to June 30, 2015. The force will depart to Afghanistan before January 1 to prepare for its tasks.

The Poles' mission will be mainly advisory, no combat operations by Polish troops are foreseen. On the force will be mainly higher officers from the Defence Ministry, the Polish Army's General Staff and the military General and Operational Command.
