Poroshenko to pay official visit to Poland

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has accepted his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski's invitation to visit Warsaw on December 17. On Thursday the two presidents will go to Moldova.

Komorowski and Poroshenko announced the plans of the visits in Bratislava late on Sunday, where they took part in the ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution that put an end to the communist rule in the country.

The ceremonies were attended by the presidents of the regional Visegrad Group (V4) countries, comprising the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, as well as Petro Poroshenko and German President Joachim Gauck.

"For us it is important that the Visegrad Group took care of issues that are crucial for the whole region, and the fate of Ukraine and its prospects of getting closer to the West are of utmost importance for the whole region," Komorowski said at a briefing with Poroshenko.

Poroshenko said that Poland was "the most ardent advocate of Ukraine among the V4 states."

Poroshenko also invited Komorowski to pay a visit to Kiev in early 2015. The Polish president accepted the invitation.
