„Against two enemies" – outdoor performance in Lodz

On Sunday 27 September 2009 Lodz hosted an outdoor performance entitled „Against two enemies”. It was organised as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the WWII outbreak and soviet invasion of Poland. Head of the National Security Bureau Minister Aleksander Szczyglo took the celebration of 1939 events held in Lodz from 17th September until 11th November and organised under one title “Two September wars – 4th division of Poland”, under his honorary patronage.

The events planned include lectures given in the University of Lodz, talks given in several high and middle schools and multimedia contest. The project is coordinated by Dr. (Profesor?) Malgorzata Dabrowska who represents the Institute of History in the University of Lodz, and the entities responsible for organisation are following: Institute of History of the University of Lodz, Museum of Independence Traditions in Lodz, Historical Reconstruction Group „Barka”, and Association for „Lodz” Army Commeration as well as Katyn Family Association.

Outdoor performance entitled „Against two enemies” presented in Poniatowski’s park in Lodz was directly linked to the subjects brought up in the celebration. At first, the participants and viewers took part in the Mass for those who died in the East. Next, large group of spectators saw an hour long performance divided into scenes entitled “Fight against the Germans”, “Soviets enter”, “Guerrilla or captivity” and “Epilogue”. During the breaks between the scenes Grzegorz Wrobel, curator at the Museum of Independence Traditions in Lodz, introduced and explained to viewers the issues raised during the show. The characters were played by over fifty reconstructors from the Historical Reconstruction Groups from the Lodz region, i.e. “Barka” as well as “Blyskawica” from Waksmund near Nowy Targ, and “Anlage Mitte” from Konewka near Tomaszow Mazowiecki.  
 
Having taken the celebration under patronage, a representative of the National Security Bureau participated in the event.
