V4 Members Work on the Proposal of the New European Security Strategy – Meeting in Jurata

On 26-27 May 2013, took place the meeting of representatives of the secretariats of national security councils of the Visegrád Group (V4) member countries. The main purpose of the meeting was preparing a joint proposal of the new security strategy for the European Union.

Two day workshop in Jurata was a second meeting of this kind, involving representatives from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. The previous workshop was held in Wisła in January 2013.

Head of BBN Stanisław Koziej said, that V4 countries are preparing to the upcoming European Council summit, scheduled for December 2013. The main part of the summit will be the Common Security and Defence Policy. S. Koziej acknowledged, that the meetings between V4 members are meant to prepare them for the eventuality of the European security strategic review. Head of BBN underlined, that the current European Security Strategy was adopted in 2003 and everyone agrees, that it is not up to date.  

President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski called for initiating works on the new European Security Strategy during the 48. Munich Security Conference in February 2012.
