V4 states work on European security policy

12–13 January 2013, representatives of the Visegrad Group states discussed possibilities of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy development. The President of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, participated in the closing session of the meeting. He said that European security policy has a special place in the Polish international agenda for 2013.

Poland wants to clearly define the lines of EU action in this matter. During the 48th Munich Security Conference President B. Komorowski had urged others to begin work on a new European Security Strategy. For Poland the remaining V4 states are important allies in this process. The National Security Bureau invited its partners from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary to work on a common position for the upcoming European Council meeting, where development of the European strategic security policy will be discussed.

During the workshop panels, guests learned about results of Poland´s first National Security Strategic Review. The participants analyzed national interests and strategic objectives of the V4 states and identified common interests and aims of the Visegrad Group in Europe and in the region. The guests sought to identify the V4's common mission in the security policy matters.

The head of BBN, minister Stanisław Koziej, also presented the Bureau's action plan on a new European document - a European Security Strategy - and a food-for-thought document "Strategic security problems of the European Union".

The participants wish to continue their cooperation in this format.
