United States Secretary of the Navy visits BBN

Friday, 21 September 2012. Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau Dr. Zdzisław Lachowski met with the United States Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current practice and perspectives for cooperation between Polish and American navies, issues related to modernization of the Polish Navy and energy security problems in the USA, including the role the fleet  plays in ensuring safety of resources deliveries.

The parties emphasized the significance of Polish-American cooperation in exchanging experience and assistance in adjusting Polish Navy to NATO standards. Also, the views on the directions of the navy development were shared.

Secretary Mabus pointed that more than 90 percent of the world’s trade is conducted by sea. As the American party underlined, it intertwines with the need to maintain the potential of the US Navy in order to ensure safety of international sea routes. Another issue raised during the meeting related to energy security, the parties discussed possible threats and ways to prevent them.

Regular visits of representatives of American administration in the National Security Bureau are an element of important dialog in the security field between Poland and the USA. They create a very good opportunity to share experience and observations and build mutual trust.
