US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy visits BBN

Thursday, 20 September 2012. The Deputy Head of BBN, Dr. Zdzisław Lachowski, met with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy, James Townsend.

Issues discussed included bilateral relations and common undertakings on the NATO forum. During the discussion, parties talked about possibilities for promoting mutual relations in the field of security policy in ways beneficial for both parties. J. Townsend’s visit in Warsaw, which also included meetings in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense and the Polish Institute of International Affairs, is connected with preparations for a visit of the US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Derek Cholleta, scheduled to take place in November this year.

The visits of the US representatives to BBN are part of the continuing dialogue in security matters between Poland and the USA. This year, a rotation program of deployed US air forces in Łask will be initiated.

In December 2008, James Townsend participated in a seminar organized by BBN in Warsaw. In his capacity as Vice-President of the Atlantic Council of the United States, he then delivered a lecture on the new NATO Strategic Concept of 2010 as adopted in Lisbon.
