Visit of the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces

Monday, 11 June 2012. Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau, Dr. Zdzisław Lachowski met with the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Major General Devi Chankotadze, who is visiting Poland invited by the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, General Mieczysław Cieniuch.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current course and perspectives for further development of bilateral military cooperation between Poland and Georgia. Georgia is the most important partner of Poland in the Southern Caucasus, whose efforts to get closer to the Transatlantic community are consistently supported by our country. Poland tries to combine the scope of military cooperation with Georgia’s needs resulting from the Annual National Programme (ANP), which adopts the armed forces to NATO’s requirements.

Dr. Z. Lachowski and Major General D. Chankotadze talked about modernization priorities of Poland’s and Georgia’s armed forces, as well as planned reforms in the command systems and in the field of military education. Chief of Georgia’s Joint Staff and members of the delegation familiarized the Polish side with the changes that are planned to be implemented in the Georgian national security management system and key guidelines concerning the transformation of the Georgian army.

Deputy Head of the NSB acknowledged Georgian efforts, thanked for the participation of their contingent in NATO’s operation in Afghanistan and declared support for territorial integrity of Georgia.
