Head of the NSB visits Ukraine

19-20 May 2011. Invited by the Secretary of the of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Raisa Bohatyriowa, the Head of the NSB, Minister Stanisław Koziej visited Ukraine.

On the first day, during the meeting with the Secretary of the NSDC, the parties discussed current issues relating to the regional security and international cooperation.

Particular consideration was paid to the priorities of Polish presidency of the Council of the EU, which is due to start in the second half of the year; it is planned to draw more attention to advancing and deepening the process of European integration of Ukraine, including cooperation within the Common Security and Defence Policy.

After the meeting, the Head of the NSB and the Secretary of the NSDC signed joint release and took part in the press conference.

On that day, Minister Koziej met also with Ukrainian Minister of Defence, Mr. Mikhailo Yezhel. The ministers shared information relating to experiences connected with professionalisation of Polish and Ukrainian armed forces. They also discussed Ukrainian strategic documents, including military doctrine, national security defence and concepts of the armed forces development.

On Friday, the Head of the NSB visited the advisor of the international affairs to the President of Ukraine, Mr. Andry Honcharuk. The parties discussed issues relating to bilateral relations between both countries, including the visit of the President of Ukraine to the 17th meeting of the presidents of Central European states, which will be held on 27-28 May in Warsaw. The Ukrainian part expressed their gratitude for Polish support during the European integration process of Ukraine.

Moreover, Minister Koziej met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Pavlo Klimkin and discussed Ukrainian integration, regional and European security and participation of Ukraine in the missile defence program as well as NATO-Ukraine relations.

After official meetings, the Head of the NSB visited Bykovnia, where he paid tribute to the victims of NKVD (Soviet secret police). He met with Polish archaeologists that carry out exhumation and talked to Professor Andrzej Kola, head of the search group.

The visit was part of Plan of Cooperation between the NSB and the NSDC for 2010-2011.
