President of the Republic of Poland has assumed the command over the Armed Forces

On 15 August 2010 during the Polish Army Day celebration in Warsaw, the President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski has taken over his duties as the Supreme Commander of Polish Armed Forces.

The celebration of the Polish Army Day and 90th anniversary of the Warsaw Battle were inaugurated with ceremonial service in the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army. The service was celebrated by the administrator of the Field Ordinariate Father Slawomir Zarski and was attended by: President of the Republic of Poland and the First Lady, the Head of the NSB Minister Stanisław Koziej, representatives of the Parliament and Government, Polish Army officers, veterans, military chaplains and representatives of the NATO armies as well as Warsaw citizens and invited guests.

 
After the service President has unveiled the plaque commemorating 96 victims of the plane crash near Smolensk, which includes names of 96 persons who died on 10 April, their dates of birth and positions.
 
At noon during the ceremony held on the Pilsudski Square in Warsaw the President has taken over his duties as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Afterwards, by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier the formal changing of the guards was held as well as Call for Remembrance, after which the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces awarded state decorations.
 
After the parade of the Polish Army sub-units the President accompanied by Minister Koziej, Minister of the National Defence Bogdan Klich and the Chief of Staff, General Mieczyslaw Cieniuch using the satellite connection spoke to the Polish troops stationed in Afghanistan giving them best wishes on the occasion of the Polish Army Day.
