The National Electoral Commission: Bronisław Komorowski won the second round

During the conference held on Monday 5th July 2010, Chief Electoral Officer Stefan Jaworski informed that Bronislaw Komorowski was elected president of Poland. 8 933 887 voters (53,01 %) chosen representative of the Civic Platform and 7 919 134 (46,99 %) voters voted for the Chairman of Law and Justice Party Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Mr. Jaworski confirmed that official ceremony of handing president-elect the NEC’s resolution concerning the results of presidential elections shall be held on Tuesday at noon in the Royal Castle. The ceremony will take place in the presence of representatives of the highest state authorities.
Chief Electoral Officer added that National Electoral Commission announcement concerning the results of presidential elections will be published in the Journal of Law. The announcement will also be published on the Internet in order to make it generally known.
NEC will also promptly prepare and present to the Highest Court a report on the elections. Basing on the report and opinion regarding filed protests, within 30 days as of the date of public announcement of elections’ results, the Highest Court including the Labour Chamber and the Chamber of Social Securities and Public Affairs will pass a resolution regarding validity of elections – explained judge Jaworski.
Protests concerning elections can be filed to the Highest Court until 8th July. The right to enter a protest has been granted to persons who during the voting day were included in the list of voters, election committees of the candidates and electoral commissions.  
Proceedings in the Highest Court will include the Chief Electoral Officer and the Public Prosecutor General; resolution passed by the Highest Court will be published in the Journal of Law.  
The Chief Electoral Officer also said that the president-elect will take the oath before the National Assembly within 7 days as of the date pronouncing the elections valid. New president will assume the office after taking the oath and thereby will start his 5 year term. The date of taking the oath will be set by the National Assembly.
Mr. Jaworski reminded that the elections had to be organised earlier because of the death of President Lech Kaczynski in the plane crash near Smolensk on 10 April 2010.
